Fitment Troubleshooting

Bra Fitting Problems and How to Solve Them

Do your underwires dig in, or do your straps slip off? Our fitment guide helps you identify common bra fitting issues and provides quick solutions.

Why does a bra underband ride up at the back?

A bra underband rides up at the back because the band is too loose. The band should sit horizontally around your body. If it pulls upward, it lacks the tension to support the weight of your bust. To solve this, you must choose a smaller band size and increase the cup size. For example, if your 34D bra rides up, try a 32D sister size or look at our Sister Sizing Guide for offsets.

Why do bra cups gape or spill over?

Bra cups gape when the cup size is too large or the shape is incompatible with your bust. Conversely, breast tissue spills over (creating a double-bust effect) when the cup size is too small.

Troubleshooting Cup Fits

  • For gaping cups: Try tightening your straps. If gaping persists, try a smaller cup size or switch from a balcony to a plunge bra which suits shallow shapes.
  • For spilling cups: Increase your cup size by 1 letter. Breast tissue should sit flush with the cup edges.
  • For gore digging: If the central metal piece digs into your sternum, the cup size is likely too small, pushing the wires forward. Try a wider full cup bra or a wire-free wireless bra.

Why do shoulder straps dig in or slip off?

Shoulder straps dig in when the bra underband is too loose, forcing the straps to carry the full weight of the bust. Straps slip off when they are positioned too wide on narrow shoulders. To resolve digging, choose a smaller band size. To resolve slipping, select a balcony style with centered straps or a multiway strapless bra which does not rely on straps for support.

Frequently Asked Questions

D Cup Bra Sizing Guidance FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about D-cup fitting and support.

How can I tell if my bra wire is too wide?

A wire is too wide if it sits far behind your breast tissue toward your armpit, or if the cups gape at the sides. Wires should outline your breast tissue exactly without sitting on it.

Why does my bra band feel too tight but rides up?

The band feels too tight because your cups are too small, forcing breast tissue into the band. The band rides up because it lacks the tension of a smaller size. Try increasing the cup size.
